About the Irish Setter
A bird dog with a glossy mahogany-red coat, developed in Ireland in the eighteenth century to find game birds and freeze in a setting stance. It became a popular family dog after the 1962 Disney film Big Red. President Richard Nixon owned an Irish Setter named King Timahoe. Playful and slow to mature, it keeps a puppyish attitude for years and needs lots of exercise.
