Dalmatian
About the Dalmatian
One of the oldest breeds, depicted in Egyptian tombs 4,000 years ago. Famous as carriage dogs, running alongside horses and guarding them. Their association with firehouses began when they cleared the way for horse-drawn fire engines. Puppies are born pure white and develop spots as they grow. The 101 Dalmatians film caused a spike in demand, followed by a surge in abandoned Dalmatians. Prone to deafness — about 8% are born deaf.
