Chow Chow

About the Chow Chow

An ancient Chinese breed that served as a hunting, herding, guarding, and sled dog. Famous for its blue-black tongue, its lionlike ruff, and its stiff, stilted gait. It comes in rough and smooth coat types. Aloof and catlike, it is devoted to its family but wary of strangers. Sigmund Freud owned a Chow named Jofi that he said helped calm his patients.
