About the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
An Irish farm dog used for herding, guarding, and ratting for more than 200 years. Its single coat is soft, silky, and the color of ripening wheat. Puppies are born darker and lighten as they mature. Wheatens are famous for their exuberant jumping greeting, often called the Wheaten greetin. The AKC recognized the breed in 1973. It sheds little but needs daily brushing.
