About the Saint Bernard
Bred by monks at the Great St Bernard Pass hospice in the Alps to rescue lost travelers. The most famous, Barry, allegedly saved 40 lives between 1800-1814. Never actually carried brandy casks — that image came from a painting. Can weigh up to 120 kg. Beethoven (the movie dog) made them beloved worldwide. Their massive size means short lifespans and joint issues.
