About the Boxer
Developed in Germany in the late 1800s from the Bullenbeisser (now extinct). Named for their tendency to stand on hind legs and bat with front paws. The first Boxer registered with the AKC was in 1904. Used in both World Wars as messenger and guard dogs. Their undershot jaw and wrinkled face give them a distinctive expression. Patient and protective with children.
