About the Portuguese Water Dog
A fishermans helper along the coast of Portugal that herded fish into nets, retrieved broken nets and tackle, and carried messages between boats. Its webbed feet and waterproof coat make it a superb swimmer. The breed was near extinction in the 1930s before a Portuguese shipping magnate revived it. The Obama family brought Portuguese Water Dogs Bo and Sunny to the White House.
