About the Pekingese
Bred for centuries as a companion to the Chinese imperial court, where commoners were not allowed to own one. Legend says it was born from the love of a lion and a marmoset. In 1860 British troops took several Pekingese from the Summer Palace in Beijing, and one, named Looty, was presented to Queen Victoria. Its thick mane and rolling gait are distinctive. Prone to breathing and eye problems.
