About the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Named after King Charles II, who was so devoted to his spaniels that he allowed them in court. The breed as we know it was recreated in the 1920s to resemble the dogs in Van Dyck paintings of Charles II. A prop dog from Sex and the City boosted their popularity 700%. Prone to heart disease — about half develop mitral valve disease by age 10. The largest of the toy breeds.
