Norwegian Elkhound

About the Norwegian Elkhound

An ancient Nordic spitz used for thousands of years to track moose, called elk in Europe, and hold them at bay by barking until hunters arrived. It is the national dog of Norway. Its thick gray coat and tightly curled tail suit harsh northern winters. Bold and independent, it is a natural watchdog with a loud voice. Sheds heavily twice a year.
