About the Mastiff
One of the oldest breeds, dating back to ancient Babylon and Egypt. A Mastiff reportedly fought alongside King Leonidas at Thermopylae. The largest recorded Mastiff weighed 156 kg (343 lbs). Used in Roman arenas to fight gladiators, lions, and bulls. Nearly extinct after WWII — only 8 remained in Britain. Despite their history as war dogs, modern Mastiffs are gentle and affectionate.
