About the Havanese
The national dog of Cuba and the only breed native to the island, a member of the Bichon family brought by Spanish settlers. It was the pampered lapdog of Cuban aristocrats. After the Cuban Revolution the breed nearly disappeared, and it was rebuilt in the United States from a small number of dogs brought by exiles. Its soft, silky coat can be corded.
