About the Great Pyrenees
A large livestock guardian from the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain, bred to protect flocks of sheep from wolves and bears. In 1675 the court of Louis XIV declared it the Royal Dog of France. Its thick white coat protects it in snow, and it has double dewclaws on its hind legs. Calm and gentle with family, but independent and protective, especially at night.
