About the German Shepherd
Developed by Max von Stephanitz in 1899 from various herding breeds to create the ideal working dog. The second most popular breed in the US. Used extensively in police, military, and search-and-rescue roles worldwide. Rin Tin Tin, a German Shepherd rescued from WWI France, became a Hollywood star and helped popularize the breed in America. Highly trainable with a strong protective instinct.
