About the Australian Shepherd
Despite the name, the breed was developed in the western United States, not Australia. The name comes from their association with Basque shepherds who came via Australia. Many have naturally bobbed tails. Often have striking merle coat patterns and heterochromia (different colored eyes). Considered the cowboy dog of the American West. Excel at agility, frisbee, and flyball.
