About the Bernese Mountain Dog
One of four Swiss mountain dog breeds, distinguished by their tri-color coat. Originally farm dogs used for drafting, herding, and guarding in the Bernese Alps. Nearly went extinct in the late 1800s before Swiss breeders revived them. Known for their gentle temperament despite their size. Shorter lifespan than most breeds (6-8 years average), with cancer being the leading cause of death.
