About the Affenpinscher
Its name means monkey terrier in German, a nod to its monkey-like face. Bred in Germany to hunt rats in kitchens, granaries, and stables, it is one of the oldest toy breeds. Bold and comical, it does not realize how small it is. An Affenpinscher named Banana Joe won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2013. Its wiry coat sheds little.
